The Golden Compass

Ange and I went to see The Golden Compass last Friday. It was a really interesting movie. In case you haven’t heard, it’s also been boycotted and generally whined about by a lot of Christian groups because of the “anti-Christian elements”.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was entertaining and well made, but also fascinating because of the worldview that it presents. I’m still thinking about it a lot, because I think it has some important insights. I think it’s really perceptive about religious institutions and what happens when spiritual leadership becomes about power instead of humility and service. I also think it expresses the heart posture of human independence really well (intentionally or not). I think EVERY adult Christian should see this movie, not so that we can criticize it and win arguments, but so that we can understand and engage people’s hearts (and so we catch the well-deserved rebuke).

In other news, we’re still awaiting news on the Ireland front. This is a critical time, for us, though, so please pray that God would connect us with the right groups and make a way for us. We feel a lot of peace about it, though.
